Korean Drinking Games That Actually Work With New Friends

Hey! Taesung’s back.

Today, I’m bringing you the lowdown on Korean drinking games.

You know those awkward moments when you’re meeting someone new or catching up after a long time?

Koreans have a secret weapon for that—drinking games.

Especially in college, these games are a must at group dates. Why? To break the ice and amp up the vibe.

When I ran my guesthouse, drinking games were a staple.

Everyone’s a stranger at first, but these games turned us into friends, ending the night with epic beer parties.

Let me share a few of my games that never fail to light up the room. Follow my order for maximum fun

For your information, the AI explains the rules. I can’t explain it well (only rules)

007 Game

Rule :

  • players sit in a circle hands free

  • flow → shooter points and says 0 → that target points and says 0 → next points and says 7 → next points and shouts BANG

  • the person who gets BANG must freeze no reaction

  • the two neighbors of that person throw both hands up and go ah at the same time

  • anyone late wrong word or wrong motion drinks

  • next round starts from the person who got BANG or use house rule start from shooter again

This is my starter game. The rules are simple, but the fun is off the charts.

Once you’re used to it, try the Silent 007 Game. Same rules, just no talking (someone makes noise? drink).

Apartment(Apt.)

Rule:

  • stack everyone’s hands center one on top of another

  • leader calls a target number then the group starts counting from one

  • each count the bottom hand slides to the top like a conveyor

  • the person whose hand lands on the called number drinks

  • miss the count break tempo or move out of turn → drink

Made famous by Bruno Mars and Rosé’s song.

The simpler the game, the more fun it is.

Perfect for easing into the vibe.

Janchi-gi (tapping cups)

Rule:

  • each player has a light cup upside down on the table

  • light chant in the background helps pace jan-chi-gi jan-chi-gi

  • on your turn you tap your cup with fingers

    • 1 tap → pass to next player clockwise

    • 2 taps → reverse one seat and that player goes

    • 3 taps → skip one seat in the current direction

  • miscount break rhythm or tap the wrong number → drink

Now let’s slowly ramp up the energy while keeping it chill.

This one’s easy if you stay focused.

Can you? Will you? Are you sure?

You’ve probably had enough drinks by now?

Son Byung-ho Game

Rule:

  • hold up 5 fingers some play with 10

  • in order each player says something they have done or a category like people who have been to Busan fold

  • anyone it applies to folds one finger

  • first to fold all fingers drinks

  • essentially the Korean Never Have I Ever style fold game

Time to get quiet.

I use this to help people who struggle to join in.

Pick out their quirks, and suddenly everyone’s interested in them.

It’s my job as the guesthouse host to make sure everyone mingles, right?

Use this wisely. Got a crush? Point them out… Am I too old-school? Nah don’t care ㅋㅋㅋ.

Pirate Game

Now, just chat with whoever you’re vibing with.

You’ve had plenty to drink, and the mood’s set.

But sometimes, things get awkwardly quiet.

Are you gonna repeat the same games? Nah, that’s boring.

You know what I’m talking about. When things get awkward, I whip this out.

Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, I know this!’ and I say, ‘Why do you think I brought this out?’

Get ready to stab the sword, and the fun’s back on. This is my secret sauce. Just follow my lead; it’s epic

Jelly Monster

You’re all wasted by now, for sure.

Time to wind down. This is the last one.

It’s mindless fun. Everyone throws jelly at a mirror or glass, and whoever’s falls first, drinks.

It’s quick, so make it the grand finale. Everyone’s drunk and cheering like it’s a horse race. And that’s it.

Chill with whoever’s left standing and crash. Got it?

I wrote about drinking games today.

If you’re experienced, you’ll know what to do.

If not, follow my order.

My five years of experience can’t be ignored.

Oh, and drink responsibly, but if you can’t keep up, you’re dead first, So saaad…

Enjoy the games!
